The Ultimate Record Breaker
The Olympics is all about breaking records, doing what has never been done before. Who will beat the last champion, if even by a split second? There is one man who broke the ultimate record—the record of a perfect life. No one before Him has ever done it, and no one since has come close. Jesus Christ was not born like everyone else—the product of a man and a woman. Instead, He was born from a virgin as the Son of God. His mother was told by an angel, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God." This miraculous birth set the stage for the greatest record breaker of all time.
Raising the Bar
Just like His birth, His entire life set standards. When everyone else was focusing on their career or family, Jesus went out into His country teaching people about the Kingdom of God and healing all their diseases. One of His followers observed that He was unlike anyone else they had seen, as "the people were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes." He also had complete power over every disease and was willing to heal anyone who believed in Him. The Bible says, "They brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and He healed them." In addition to this, He also never disobeyed God in any way. This perfection and power threatened the authorities, and they conspired to kill Him.
The Greatest Challenge
Everyone thought He would become the King of Israel, but God had given Him a greater challenge. He was sent to earth to die for the sins of all people and make a way to have a relationship with God. The prophet Isaiah foretold His sacrifice when he wrote, "He was wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement for our peace was upon Him and by His stripes we are healed." Just as predicted in the Bible, Jesus willingly died a horrible death for maintaining that He was the Son of God. While being crucified as an innocent man, He prayed, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." He chose to be punished for the sins of the world so that we could have eternal life with God.
His Loss, Your Gain
Just as the Bible foretold Jesus’ sacrifice, it also promised His resurrection—that God would raise Him back to life and He would conquer sin and death once and for all. True to the prophecy, He was resurrected after three days and seen by over 500 of His followers. Before being taken up into heaven, Jesus told His followers to let everyone know about the salvation that is available through believing in Him. “For if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus Christ, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Jesus’s loss is your gain! God’s desire is that you be saved from your sins and have an eternal relationship with Him as your heavenly Father. You can begin this relationship today and experience eternal life by sincerely praying a prayer similar to this one.
Begin a Relationship with God
"Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God and Savior of the world. Thank you for dying for my sins so that I could have eternal life with God in heaven. Please forgive all my sins. I commit my whole life to You now. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and guide my steps. In Jesus' name, Amen."
